Metal Free Dental Bridge with Cantilevered Unit

Alan was referred by his dentist on the south side of Glasgow. He had endured previous attempts to wear partial dentures unsuccessfully and wasn’t happy with the metal on his old porcelain-fused-to-metal NHS bridgework.

Alan also wanted another space filled and was considering implant crowns versus replacement with new bridges.

Following a thorough consultation process over two appointments with Dr Murphy and X-ray analysis, it was decided to proceed with metal free bridgework, extending into the space using a cantilever unit.

Instruction on brushing and flossing was initially required with our hygienist Laura Herdman.

The bridgework treatment was completed over two visits 10 days apart using zirconium based ceramic porcelain.

This framework is extremely strong, almost to the point of being unbreakable, therefore ideal for cantilever units.

Allan was encouraged to involve himself in the shade selection process and visited the ceramic laboratory technician for an expert view.

He wanted a natural shade of porcelain on the bridgework to maintain a level of parity with his lower enamel.

Dr Murphy commented on the difficulties with regard to the bite on the left side, which can be seen from the photos above, although that seems to have fitted well together on completion.

Alan stated that, apart from some sensitivity during the 10 day temporisation phase, for which he was prescribed a special toothpaste, things went extremely well.

He is delighted with the results and has been re referred to his regular dentist for normal checkups. Alan’s treatment cost £3080 for seven bridge units ands one porcelain veneer.
