Cosmetic Dentistry for a Local Partick Businessman – Veneers and Crowns

Jim is a local businessman here in Partick in Glasgow’s West End. He came to us looking for a regular Glasgow dentist after many years of non-attendance.

He presented with an unusual form of staining on his teeth which related to a course of antibiotics taken as a child, when the enamel in his teeth was developing.

Jim had shopped around online a little, “I was looking for the best cosmetic dentistry but with an affordable option like finance.”

Having been taken through a 20 minute free consultation with Dr Brendan Murphy, all aspects of cosmetic dentistry were discussed in an effort to come up with a plan which might eliminate the very dark colours around the necks of Jim’s teeth.

It was agreed that tooth whitening would have limited benefit, although this was offered at half price (£155) for lower teeth only. That would achieve the best possible starting position in order to restore the upper teeth more comprehensively.

Choosing porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns for a cosmetic look

All types of restorations – composites, porcelain veneers and ceramic crowns were covered through demonstration photos of before/during/after ‘smile makeover’ cases.

Ultimately, three Emax porcelain veneers and five Emax porcelain crowns were provided. As always, Alec from Vitality lab, was in attendance to ensure that the hardest part of the process was achieved: matching porcelain opacity and shade, particularly in a case where the original ‘stump’ shade is so very dark.

You can see from the two after photos below that a much lighter shade was helped by the first step – lifting the shade of the uppermost part of the lower incisors slightly with routine home tooth whitening.

Jim was happy that we didn’t transform things too radically. “My mates would give me pelters if I walked into the pub, as a guy in his early 60s looking like someone from Pop Idol!”

Jim spent £3044 on four X-rays, three porcelain veneers and five Emax ceramic porcelain crowns.
