Porcelain Veneers, Ceramic Crown and Cosmetic Denture Case Study

This was a very interesting and rewarding case for George, a Glasgow patient with significant cosmetic concerns regarding his upper teeth.

Multiple cosmetic dental issues

As can be seen from the before photo, the lower teeth were badly stained, the upper front teeth were becoming darker and there was an old NHS porcelain crown with poor shade match. An additional concern was the space ~(upper left) which exposed a black amalgam filling.

The patient had a limited budget due to a wedding next year and was not keen to take out finance to fund his treatment. It was therefore decided to fill the space with a cosmetic sectional denture which was made in elastic retentive material.

A very pleasing cosmetic result

The lower teeth were cleaned up during hygienist treatments. The patient wasn’t keen on maintaining regular tooth whitening in order to match the front teeth with those at the sides and decided upon three porcelain veneers and one crown, all made with Emax porcelain. The match was pretty natural and it’s almost impossible to detect any difference between the types of porcelain.

George’s girlfriend was the happiest at the fitting appointment as she felt more optimistic about getting him to smile (without a brown tooth) for their wedding photographs next year!
