Rebecca is keeping a diary of her orthodontic treatment in Glasgow. This is her latest invisible braces update.
I got myself in the bad books again yesterday! Broke another bracket on a fast food French fry.
It was one of the cosmetic brackets which got crunched by one of the smaller, harder fries and because I’ve got a tendency to grind my teeth I have to be more careful.
Dr Murphy took the news quite well and once again tagged me on at the end of the day.
Invisible braces are a fab idea but one of the reasons they are unsuitable for really complex cases is that they’re not as hard-wearing as the old fashioned train tracks.
Luckily for me I’m still on course for a 3-4 month turnaround – what we call STO (Short Term Orthodontics).
It’s worth remembering that I would not have qualified for NHS orthodontics in Glasgow even if I was under 18 years of age. Anyway, cosmetic braces wouldn’t have been on offer through the NHS and I am too vain to put up with metal braces for that long!
Most of our STO cases take anywhere between 4-9 months so I’m definitely ahead of plan.
I’m on strict orders now to stick to well-done pasta and keep away from the hard crusts. It’s a small price to pay and worth it for straight teeth.
One of our other nurses , Laura, has been quite impressed and says she’s next in line for 6 Month Smiles. Watch this space.
