"I had considered orthodontics for most of my student years but the idea of metal braces was a little off putting, not just in terms of appearance but the time taken for completion of treatment.
During my consultation I also discussed all of the Short Term Orthodontics options with Dr Murphy.  I wouldn't have picked a practice which didn't have hard evidence in terms of benefits and results.
We agreed on ceramic brackets and he predicted a treatment time of five to six months which was delivered as promised. The braces aren't too noticeable and that was a bonus for me as I dealt with my own patients!

Six Month Smiles is a short term orthodontic treatment designed to guide your teeth into their desired position in the fastest time possible. How fast? We had one patient who made the trip from the Highlands following a recommendation from her dentist. She had her consultation, photos, impressions and records completed followed by cosmetic braces in one storming two hour session.

Rebecca didn't want old-style metal braces on her teeth but liked the idea of invisible braces. Dr Murphy decided that in her case Six Month Smiles was the best option.

These videos mark a couple of milestones along the way when Dr Murphy checks her progress and carefully prizes off the old elastic bands to replace them with new clear bands. This increases the tension on the braces and speeds up the straightening process. Rebecca said that most of the time her friends and wider family didn't even realise she was wearing braces and ended up delighted with her new smile.

"During my first consultation, Dr Murphy pointed out that my teeth were quite small relative to my jaw size and confirmed what other dentists had told me: it was almost impossible to fix without using some composite bonding or veneers.

I asked him to at least make spaces smaller and he said that he'd do his best, though he did warn me that it would take longer than the Six Month Smiles cosmetic braces system.

Although it took over one year Dr Murphy didn't charge me any extra and even did some tooth whitening free of charge.

 

I've found Dr Murphy and his staff to be really approachable and welcoming. They always listen to me although I try not to give them too many problems.

  1. You will be given a detailed treatment plan at your initial consultation
  2. Your next appointment is likely to be for fitting the braces
  3. We will then make appointments for you every few weeks over the next four to five months so we can check progress and and make adjustments
  4. After your braces come off you will be encouraged to visit our hygienist to keep your new smile in tip top condition

Does it really only take six months?

Sometimes less! This is the average amount of time for Six Month Smiles but it can vary by patient. In exceptional cases treatment can be completed in as few as four months. Occasionally though it can stretch further than six.

Are Six Month Smiles suitable for adults?

Yes, in fact Six Month Smiles have been created specifically for adults with problems with their teeth. We get many requests every week from adults who missed out on getting braces when they were teenagers or who didn’t persevere with earlier treatment and now want straighter teeth?

Will I need to wear a retainer?

Yes, this is the usual procedure for braces treatments. You will get a retainer to help keep your newly straight teeth in the correct position. It’s important to follow aftercare advice from Dr Murphy and the Crystal Dental hygienist to ensure your teeth don’t slip back into their old position.

Can I spread the cost of my braces treatment?

Are they like metal braces?
