Dr Murphy brings us his regular update with goings on in the Glasgow practice.
Thanks to the dental implants manufacturer, Biohorizons, for having me as a guest at their dinner for the Scottish Dental Awards in the science centre. Peter Martin was his usual audacious self and it was a nice evening’s entertainment- a chance for me to catch up with former associates. It was also an opportunity to meet up with our friends at Leca Dental Laboratory (see the video on the cosmetic dentistry Glasgow page) and buy them a long overdue beer.
Christie has accepted her place at the University of Glasgow to study English. She will continue to work part time during term time and increase her commitment over the plentiful holidays! It’s great news for us to have her studying locally, as the offers from other universities were also unconditional: Glasgow’s Smiles Better!
Rebecca has already fractured her retainer! This happened during cleaning and patients should be reminded that the plastic is only 1.5mm thick (so that they are comfortable and unobtrusive); especially careful if they are enthusiastic or vigorous with hygiene. A gentle brush is generally sufficient as they’re not worn during meal times.
We had the pleasure of another successfully completed Invisalign case today. The patient returned several months after ‘braces off’ to have a second/backup set of retainers made. Her reasoning was sound: an imminent and lengthy trip to Africa. Patients often look for that reassurance when travelling, as trying to book in with a foreign dentist and sourcing replacement retainers (few dentists provide this service), can be extremely challenging and stressful; probably expensive. We charge £80 per retainer and they can be fitted within 24 hours.
