We often get asked about the smiles of the rich and famous. For example somebody just asked: ‘what could you do to fix Sam Bailey’s teeth?’ The X Factor winner has a pronounced gap in her front teeth.
The first thing to say is she might be perfectly happy with a gap in her smile. In which case we wouldn’t make any suggestion at all and wish all the best for the future.
However if she wanted to fix the gap in her teeth there would be a choice of three dental treatments:
- Small spaces between the teeth can be fixed by bonding with a little composite, chair-side (from £55 per tooth)
- Medium sized spaces may need porcelain veneers (£350 each)
- Larger spaces can be fixed with cosmetic braces (£2000)
But will dental treatment affect her voice?
None of those treatments are likely to affect Sam Bailey’s voice.
Her pronunciation of the ‘th’ and ‘s’ sounds may be slightly affected for a few days. This will be quickly remedied by singing numbers upwards from 30 to 39 and 60 to 70.
Doing that for a couple of minutes twice a day for a few days will teach the tongue to reset the trigger point for those sounds and result in a return to perfect speech.
